The Exact Year Of Singularity

The team here at Futureslaver has been working around the clock for months building a machine capable of calculating the exact year of singularity. We are proud to announce that we have successfully created such a machine. The operation is called "Ultimate Prophesy." Although the crew decided to keep the blueprints behind "Ultimate Prophesy" a secret, we will share a couple tidbits. First, the items needed to build the contraption: A gallon of water in a bucket. Static electricity. 50 double A batteries. 1 dot-matrix printer. 1 mirror. 10 laser pointers. Rubber. There are a few other components we desire not to disclose. Some of the component's wires and circuitry were extracted and redesigned, eventually to be set in place, The machine was put together. Its appearance is that of a square metallic box which emits a strange green pulse of light from the top. We fused a keyboard to it and input the question, "what year will singularity arrive?"  Here is what printed out:

Date of singularity 1954.

As you can imagine, this threw the team for a loop. We met at HQ for a Priority 1 Session. By early the next day we were able to rig up video feed from Ultimate Prophesy and with the help of our own Futureslaver A.I. designed a unique algorithm to pinpoint large societal rifts in time bandwidth. Alas, the Breakdown Event Generator was borne into existence. We then finalized the process by relaying the video feed through the event generator. What we witnessed made sense of it all.

In 2024, well before singularity, all nations of the world banded together to create a time machine after it was discovered a planet-sized comet was on a collision course with Earth, set to impact in 126 days. Knowing that only the technological singularity could save us in the coming catastrophe and, yet, still years away from it's inception, 10 elite scientists went Back In Time to 1940 on a one-way trip where they worked diligently to achieve singularity. Finally in the year 1954 they succeeded.

Unfortunately, that means our iteration in the realm of existence won't witness the singularity but instead the destruction by way of comet "Kill Joy." It's a bit of a double whammy as Kill Joy is effectively broken up by U.S. and Russian nukes on its course to Earth, but large fragments carrying thousands of what most closely resemble giant praying mantises strike Earth, triggering massive earthquakes and super-volcanic eruptions. Meanwhile, rapidly breeding giant insect space mantises hunt down the last surviving humans and suck their brains out.
