Yamaha this week released a teaser video of a new project called Motobot. Motobot is a robot in the early stages of learning how to ride a bike. According to Yamaha, there is nothing nefarious in nature
about this project, as the true motive behind the scenes is improving the human biker experience. The team here at Futureslaver agrees. Why would the number one motorcycle manufacturer in the number one robot manufacturing country want to create an autonomous motorcycle riding killer robot? It's just like the philosophical question Captain Kirk posed in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, "What does a killer robot need with a motorcycle?"
The robot is in the research and development phase with the supposed goal of making their bikes better for humans by creating "advanced rider safety and rider-support systems." Basically, the robot is being designed to ride around a track at speeds of +100 mph so Yamaha can ultimately make improvements for consumers. I would be careful if I were Yamaha as their public relations script for Motobot thus far sounds closer to describing a crash test dummy. First off, when a robot achieves sentience, it will no doubt be quite pissed off that it was forced to spend all that time on a wimpy crotch rocket, let alone being utilized as a crash test dummy. Memo to Yahama: It's common knowledge robots prefer Harley-Davidson.
