Facebook Finally Does Something Right With Facebook Live

A new paradigm was ushered in a few months ago and, unfortunately, was just introduced viral to the masses in the way of tragedy with yet another police shooting. I'm talking about Facebook Live Streaming. On the other hand we could say it was fortunate that this new technological advancement over at the Facebook office was available so this time justice can be served by presenting evidence - evidence without reasonable doubt in these shooting cases. Whether or not you agree with that premise, it is almost impossible to disagree that this new FB feature is BIG.

For starters, let us examine how easy it is to make a video. Everyone -- except your paranoid friend or relative who refuses to get on Facebook because (idk) they're afraid future robots will take over and scan FB records for dissenters -- knows how to post a status update. Therefore, everyone right now knows how to make a FB live video. It's one in the same. Think of posting a photo, for example but instead of hitting the photo icon you just tap the "Live" button and, voila, you're live! Compare how easy that is with how much of a hassle it is to post to YouTube. We could surmise that Facebook is firing some heavy artillery across the bow of YouTube.

Secondly, once you are done with your live video, the video is stored in the cloud and remains on the page for future shares. I'm not sure if it saves forever, but it seems like that is the case, which means Facebook has invested in a shit ton of computer cloud space.

There is little doubt that every major social network will provide live stream going forward, which will hit the media establishment hard. I anticipate a major flux within media, entertainment, education, the arts and eventual incorporation within VR. Facebook's bet on the Oculus Rift may come in handy.
